Massage Therapy
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy employs a wide variety of therapeutic approaches designed to stretch and loosen muscles to improve blood and lymph flow. It can increase oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissues and stimulate the release of endorphins into the nervous system. Massage relaxes the body and mind, reduces mental stress, and enhances the ability for calm and creative thinking.
Massage feels good because it makes you feel better
Simply, massage:
Eases pain and discomfort through improved circulation.
Relaxes and relieves tension and other soft-tissue problems.
Prevents and heals injury while improving well-being.
Through touch, conveys a sense of caring and healing.
Which massage is right for you?
Swedish massage relaxes and energizes and is the most common type of massage.
Deep tissue massage promotes healing of injuries like whiplash or back strain.
Sports massage prevents injury, maintains flexibility and heals injuries.
Chair massage, applied to the upper body while fully clothed and seated in a special chair, reduces neck
and back tension and relieves mental stress.
Is massage therapy covered by health insurance?
Massage therapy is not covered by most health insurance plans. Payment is required at the time of service which eliminates our costs for billing, collection and payment posting. This allows us to offer massage therapy at competitive rates. Patients may request a reimbursement form from health insurance plans that offer a massage therapy benefit.
Safety precautions
With certain medical conditions, massage therapy is unadvisable. If you are under medical supervision or have any doubts about your ability to receive massage, consult your physician beforehand. For people with cardiovascular conditions and heart disease, special concern is noted. Seek medical advice before having a massage if you:
Suffer from phlebitis, thrombosis, edema, varicose veins, severe acute back pain or fever.
Have swelling, fractures, skin infections, or bruises. Your physician should check lumps and swellings.
Are pregnant. Massage of the abdomen, legs and feet should be avoided during the first three months of
pregnancy.
